United staged a huge seventh-inning rally Saturday to defeat Blairsville, 14-5, and will take on Saltsburg in the Heritage Conference baseball championship on Monday.
United scored nine runs after two outs in the big inning to overcome an 11-5 deficit and win, 14-11.
Ben Tomb drove in four runs on three hits for the Lions. Joe Marino was credited with the pitching win on two scoreless innings of work.
Penns Manor and Saltsburg played Saturday afternoon, with the Trojans winning, 15-2. Saltsburg earned the second seed for the conference title game and eliminated Marion Center from championship contention in the process.
United meets Saltsburg in the championship game Monday night at First Commonwealth Bank Field in Homer City with first pitch scheduled for 7 pm. The game will be broadcast on WCCS 101.1 FM and AM-1160, 6:45 pm airtime with audio stream on WCCSradio.com and TribLive HS Sports Network. Additionally Renda Media will video stream the title game on the WCCS YouTube channel. The link will be available in WCCS Facebook Page and at WCCSradio.com.
Food and beverages are not permitted to be carried into ballpark. Homer City Area Athletic Booster Club concession stand will be open. Admission to the game is $5.
