State House Majority Leader Dave Reed and Senator Don White yesterday announced $399,000 in state funding for improvements to the S&T Arena at the White Township Recreation Complex.
The grant through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will help pay for updating and restoring the facility’s aging structural and mechanical systems, increasing ADA accessibility, implementing green energy initiatives, and other improvements.
Representative reed says the arena is twenty years old and is showing its age, and the township plans to use the funding to “keep it in operation for many years to come.” Senator White said it’s a “great investment by the state in a tremendous community resource.”
White Township Recreation Director Ryan Shaffer says that since the township took ownership of the building in 2006, they’ve made several improvements. He says the new funds will help in modernizing the building and keeping ti operating for many years in the future.
The S&T Bank Arena seats 1,000 in the ice rink, and also includes an artificial turf field that can be used for many sports, including a tennis court in the winter. It also features a fitness area and meeting rooms.
