With three games scheduled in four days, the Penguins had New Year’s Day off before tonight’s faceoff with the Washington Capitals at PPG Paints Arena. The Pens beat the Blues on Saturday and the Islanders on Sunday and are riding a three-game winning streak into the new year.
After the Caps game tonight, they’ll travel to Boston to play the Bruins on Thursday, then return to Pittsburgh to host the Sabres on Saturday.
Coach Mike Sullivan said after the Islanders game that the Penguins have a tough schedule ahead, so they have to pay attention to every detail of their game.
The Penguins may get a boost tonight from the return of top line winger Bryan Rust from long-term injured reserve. He’s eligible to return after missing the last ten games and has been a full practice participant for the last week.
Tonight’s Penguins/Capitals game is on 92.5 FM U92. The pregame airs at 6:30, with faceoff at 7:30.
