Some people in Blairsville will get 2024 off on a very cold note as they take part in the annual Blairsville Polar Plunge.
This year marks the 12th year of the annual fundraising event that has people taking a dip into the Conemaugh River. Members of the Blairsville Swift Water Rescue Team will be in the water to make sure that everyone remains safe. The rescue team is also the benefactor of this year’s Polar Plunge, as proceeds from the event will go towards the team in the Blairsville Fire Department. Blairsville Fire Chief Zach Dixon said that the team is part of the Indiana County Water Rescue Team with Saltsburg and Tunnelton, but Blairsville’s team also has a statewide accreditation.
Those who are making up their minds at the last minute to join in can do so by heading down to the Blairsville Area Veterans Memorial Bridge Boat Launch at 11:00 today. The event starts at noon. Organizers are asking for a $20 donation to take part, but donations are also being accepted even if you decide not to go into the water.
