State Senator Joe Pittman joined seven of his fellow senators in blaming the Wolf Administration for the recent announcement that U.S. Steel has cancelled plans for the Mon Valley Works Plant.
Upgrades of $1 billion were planned for the facility, and was meant to improve efficiency and reduce pollution. The company said they were putting the project off, saying they need to move on to other projects that are meant to reduce the carbon footprint of the company.
Pittman with Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman, Majority Leader Kim Ward, and Senators Elder Vogel, Camera Bartolotta, Pat Stefano, Wayne Langerholc Jr. and Devlin Robinson said in their news release that the loss of the project is “a devastating blow to the economy of southwestern Pennsylvania and a slap in the face to the hardworking, blue-collar families who were counting on these jobs.” They also say that when the government puts “Green New Deal-style projects over our own homegrown resources, we play right into the hands of China and other major polluters around the world,” and they want the Governor to start working with state lawmakers on environmental issues.
