Indiana County’s district courts will be busy today with several preliminary hearings, including one for a woman who faces charges of theft.
45-year-old Alicia Jarvie of Indiana will have a preliminary hearing today on charges of retail theft, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property for an incident on July 29th of this year. State police charged her after she allegedly tried to take an inflatable bed from the Wal-Mart in White Township. Wal-Mart loss prevention officials were able to recover the mattress. Police said at the time that this was Jarvie’s second theft offense. Jarvie was also involved in several cases of bad checks and theft by deception in 2017, when she was accused of raiding the account of an elderly woman in East Wheatfield Township.
Also in court today for a preliminary hearing is 45-year-old Jonathan E. Thoma of Blairsville, who is facing charges of flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest, providing police with a false ID and disorderly conduct-fighting for an incident on August 13th. Troopers were called out for a reported intoxicated person driving a car in the 500 block of Ben Franklin Road. Police said Thoma provided them with a fake ID before running away from police on foot. Police were able to eventually catch up with him. He was arrested not only on those charges, but several outstanding warrants as well.
