132 volunteer fire companies will receive grants from state government to help serve the rural communities they are a part of, and that includes six fire companies in Indiana county.
Governor Tom Wolf’s office announced that $646,891 in new funding was being distributed to fire companies who have to deal with brush and forest fires on a regular basis. The money comes from federal grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, who has awarded over $12 million in grants since it began in 1982.
In Indiana County, the following fire departments received grant funding from this program:
- Clyde Volunteer Fire Department in New Florence–$923

- Glenn Campbell Fire Department–$8000
- Iselin Fire Department in Saltsburg–$2500
- Marion Center Volunteer Fire Department–$2894

In a news release, acting state Fire Commissioner Bruce Trego said that grant programs like this one will help fire departments get equipment and training that’s necessary to fight fires in a professional and safe way.”
