Boston took a 3-1 win on Tuesday after holding the Penguins on offense and on Power Play opportunities.
Pittsburgh was able to gain the upper hand on the Bruins three times in the game, but couldn’t generate any scoring with those opportunities. Boston also forced Pittsburgh to give away the puck five times.
David Krejci broke the scoreless tie in the second with a goal. Brad Marchand and Taylor Hall added two insurance goals in the third to secure the lead. Tuukka Rask saved 25 shots against him.
While there wasn’t many scoring plays for play-by-play analyst Mike Lange to call for Pittsburgh, he was able to break out a one-liner on Jeff Carter’s goal in the third.
Head Coach Mike Sullivan said that, while both teams compete in a playoff style, Boston just had a good bounce-back game after last time out.
He also said the Penguins didn’t get the result they wanted out of the defensive rush, but they were competitive.
Pittsburgh sits one point behind Washington in the eastern division. Both teams will face-off on Thursday. Airtime on U92.5 FM and the U92 Sports Channel is 6 p.m.
