There was some rare Sunday high school baseball action yesterday as United beat Shanksville-Stoneycreek, 10-4 in the consolation game of the Gene Schultz Tournament at Point Stadium in Johnstown.
Jon Henry pitched 4-2/3 shutout innings, allowing 8 hits while striking out 5 and walking 4. Hunter Cameron had three hits and was named to the all-tournament team. Bradley Felix, Wade Plowman, Ben Tomb, Caden McCully, and Joe Marino all had two hits for the Lions, and Felix, Tomb, and Aiden Strong each had two RBI.
United was down 4-3 before scoring four runs in the bottom of the 5th.
In other weekend action, Richland won the 2021 Homer Center Baseball Tournament, beating Claysburg Kimmel 6-2 in the championship game. Homer Center lost to Derry, 11-1 in the consolation game.
The tournament MVP was Richland’s Corbin Kalp. The all-tournament team included Homer Center’s Brock Houser and Evann Keslar, Richland’s Seth Coleman and Josh Stem, Derry’s Ryan Bushy and Josh Ulery, and Claysburg Kimmel’s Corey Chamberlain and Parker Dibert.
On the softball fields over the weekend, the United girls dropped two games in a tournament in Portage, falling to the host school, 11-2 and to Bishop McCort, 16-12.
