The website Niche.com has come up with another list rating Pennsylvania’s 67 counties…this one is a county-by-county ranking of the cost of living.
Niche used data gathered from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics to assess the cost of living, offering letter grades on the affordability of twelve key factors.
For some reason, they stopped the numerical listing at 27, but they did assign grades to the rest of the counties. Indiana County’s overall grade was a B-(Minus). The county got an A- in nightlife; B+ in commuting; B in jobs, outdoor activities, and health & fitness; B- in public schools, housing, “good for families”, cost of living, and crime & safety; c+ in diversity; and C- in weather.
Our neighboring counties all ranked higher. Jefferson is number 5; Clearfield is number 8; Cambria number 9; Armstrong number 15; and Westmoreland is number 27.
Elk, Forest, and Venango counties are the top three most affordable counties in the state.
