Mark Edeburn tossed a complete game in the first game of a four-game series against Gannon this weekend. Edeburn got the nod for his first career start in game one on Friday and surrendered only one run while striking out seven.
The Crimson Hawks’ offense, however, couldn’t support Edeburn’s gem on the bump as they were held scoreless with one hit, which came off the bat of Caden DeCroo.
IUP would also fall in Friday’s game two, 7-2. Colin Williams went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and an RBI. Markus Cestra and DeCroo would also hit a double in the game.
On Saturday, IUP would fall by one in both games. The Crimson Hawks had a 2-0 lead heading into the fourth inning, but Gannon would tie it up in the bottom of the fourth. The Golden Knights would tally the game’s final run with a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh.
Williams continued to dominate on offense as he hit his first home run of the year in the second inning. Cestra, along with Harrison Pontoli and Chris Eisel, would add a hit.
In game two, Gannon would plate two runs in both the first and fourth innings to help secure the series sweep over the Crimson Hawks.
Pontoli would go on to have a 3-for-4 line in Saturday’s series finale. He added a double and a triple while scoring twice in the game. Austin Mueller would contribute two RBIs for IUP.
IUP is 2-26 on the season and will play Wheeling Jesuit on Tuesday at Owen Dougherty Field.

The IUP softball team also had a rough weekend against PSAC rival Gannon.
While the Crimson Hawks would out-hit the Golden Knights in the series’ first game on Friday, a seven-run fourth inning propelled the Knights to victory, 8-0. Anna Ferrucci led the way for IUP with a 2-for-2 performance. Hope Jones, Kaitlyn Beers and Jacey Henderson all went 1-for-2.
IUP would take a 4-1 lead into the fifth inning of game two, but Gannon put up a four-spot in the bottom of the fifth to come back and sweep the Friday slate. Ferrucci went 1-for-3 with an RBI while Beers tallied IUP’s lone extra-base hit with a double.
Sunday’s slate started out rough for IUP as they were downed, 11-3, in five innings by Gannon in game one. Margaret Russo tallied a double and an RBI while Renee Wall went 1-for-3 with a double.
Gannon would end the weekend series with a 4-0 shutout over IUP. The Crimson Hawks were held to three hits in the game. Beers, Russo and Haleigh Zimmerman were the recipients of those hits.
IUP is 17-15 on the year and will face Clarion in a four-game series this weekend.
