SOFTBALL
United – 13, Homer-Center 1
The Lions scored in every inning, including a six-run 6th. They piled up 13 hits. Homer-Center scored its run in the 5th. The Wildcats’ bats struggled, with just two hits.
Marion Center – 16, Northern Cambria – 6
Penns Manor – 19, Purchase Line – 10
Hayden Sturgeon led the Comets with four hits and five RBI. Kassidy Smith contributed three hits, including a double. Anna Peterman hit a double and a triple to go with four RBI and Jada Bennett had two hits and three RBI.
BASEBALL
Marion Center – 13, Northern Cambria – 9
The Stingers’ Gavin Palko singled in two runs in the 1st, and Marion Center added five more in the 2nd inning, triggered by singles by Dakota Bracken and Aidan Cattau, a walk to Ty Ryen, and a Colts’ error. Cattau, Bracken, Palko, TJ Lynn, Skyler Olp, and Landin Bennett all had two hits. Palko pitched four innings and struck out six batters for the win. Matt Sedlock had four hits for the Colts.
Saltsburg – 19, West Shamokin – 4
Matt Izzo drove in eight runs for Saltsburg. Izzo and Brady Yard were both 3 for 4 with two home runs. Braden Staats and Rocco Bartolini also homered for the Trojans. Justin Smulick and Beau Schwartz each had two hits for the Wolves.
United – 4, Homer-Center – 0
United junior Ben Tomb and Homer-Center freshman Caleb Palmer matched zeroes for five innings, but United broke through with three runs in the top of the 6th inning with Bradley Felix delivering a clutch, 2-run triple to make it 3-0. The Lions added an insurance run in the 7th. Ben Tomb pitched 5 2/3 brilliant innings, striking out 14 Wildcats. Tomb and Felix held Homer-Center to just one hit. Felix had 3 of the Lions 7 innings and added 1-1/3 of hitless relief. United is now 6-2. The Wildcats dropped to 4-5.
Indiana – 17, DuBois Central Catholic – 2 (3 innings)
Indiana scored four runs in the first, eight runs in the second, and five runs in the third. Ben Ryen was 3 for 3 with a double and two RBI. Gavin Homer delivered two hits and two RBI. Steven Budash hit a triple and drove in three runs, and Branden Kanick and Tyler Gonos each contributed three RBI.
