State police have released the statistics for their enforcement efforts across the state and across our area over the Christmas holiday.
Over the three day period which ran from December 23rd to the 25th, state police investigated 404 crashes. Three people died in three fatal crashes that were investigated. 70 others were injured. Those numbers are lower compared to last year, when troopers investigated 661 crashes, and seven people died in five fatal crashes, and 113 people were injured. The number of alcohol-related crashes remained the same at 36, but none of the alcohol-related crashes were fatal this year, compared to two of them last year.
There was an increase in the number of DUI arrests, with 198 of those this year. State police also issued 1036 speeding tickets, 123 seat belt citations, 22 child safety seat violations. All of those were increases from last year.
In Troop A, which covers parts of Indiana and Westmoreland Counties along with all of Cambria and Somerset counties, no fatal crashes were reported, but 23 crashes were reported over the three-day span and 11 people were hurt. Three of the crashes reported were alcohol-related.
