Indiana County will receive a portion of nearly $4.5 million in funding from state government to lower energy costs and create jobs in the county.
The Department of Community and Economic Development announced today the distribution of that money through its Pipeline Investment Program projects through the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The projects are meant to improve infrastructure, save energy and create jobs.
Indiana County will receive $1,491,402 in Pipeline Investment funds for the extension of a natural gas pipeline to the Route 119 Business Park in Center Township. The 4100-foot extension will begin just north of Neal Road and go towards the business park, which has two pad-ready sites for future development. Along with the business park, two commercial properties and about 25-30 residential properties will be able to take advantage of the pipeline. The money will cover the construction of the pipeline, along with related professional services, engineering, inspection, administration and tapping costs.
The funds will cover 50 percent of the project’s cost.
