HOCKEY
Indiana’s last three games have all required extra hockey, and all have resulted in wins. Last night, it was a second straight shootout as the Indians beat Shaler, 5-4.
Phill Bell scored two goals and Nick Caretti and Ash Lockard added scores as Indiana vaulted to a 4-1 lead, but Shaler scored three straight to tie it, including a goal by Jacob Skerlong with six seconds left in regulation.
In the shootout, Shaler failed three times to get the puck by Indiana goaltender Luke Rowe and Indiana’s Landin Wilson and Lockard were both frustrated before Bell scored the game-winner, beating Shaler goaltender Shane Ciganik.
Rowe stopped 34 of 38 Shaler shots in all. Indiana had 30 shots on goal.
The two points earned with the win put Indiana back on top in the Varsity A Gold division. They’re a point up on Quaker Valley. Indiana returns to action January 4th against Kiski at S&T Bank Arena and on Renda Digital TV.
