Buffalo’s offense powered for four goals on Sunday as the Sabres defeated the Penguins, 4-2, on Sunday.
While the Penguins created 36 shot opportunities, they were only able to net two goals on the game – both coming in the final period. The first came at the halfway mark off the stick of Jason Zucker and the last came from Teddy Blueger. Sam Reinhart netted two goals for Buffalo with one coming off a Power Play.
Head Coach Mike Sullivan said that while the Penguins did not play as expected, he credits the Sabres with being a tough opponent.
Pittsburgh had plenty of opportunities on rebounds and second-chance goals, but Sullivan said that the Penguins did not take advantage of those opportunities.
The Penguins now fall back into third place in the eastern division and sit one point shy of the New York Islanders. They look to bounce back on Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils.
