Pitt held high-scoring Purdue Fort Wayne to only 48 points and that helped the Panthers overcome their own poor shooting as they finished their nonconference schedule with a 62-48 win.
The Mastodons could muster only 17 first-half points against the aggressive Pitt defense and coach Jeff Capel said that was a good thing, because it wasn’t happening for Pitt offensively.
Pitt shot only 36.44 percent from the field and was only 2-of-20 on three-pointers. Capel said the distraction of the upcoming holiday break might have played a factor in the Panthers’ performance.
Guillermo Diaz Graham scored 13 points and Bub Carrington and Zack Austin each had 12. Leading scorer Blake Hinson could manage only five points.
Pitt is off until Saturday, December 30th, at Syracuse.
