Indiana County’s unemployment rate for the month of August went up, but not by much.
After dropping four tenths of a percentage point in the month of July, Indiana’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate went up by one tenth of a point to 4.6%. That puts Indiana in a tie with Jefferson and Cameron counties at 44th lowest unemployment rate among all of Pennsylvania’s counties.
Taking a look at other neighboring counties, Westmoreland County has the lowest unemployment rate at 4.2%. Armstrong is just above Indiana and Jefferson Counties with 4.7% unemployment, Clearfield has a 5.0% unemployment rate and the highest among the neighboring counties was Cambria at 5.1%. The lowest unemployment rate in the county is 2.9% for Centre county, and the highest is 5.9% in Chester County.
The number of non-farm jobs in our area went up by 200 in August to the level of 30,100 jobs. All sectors of jobs went essentially unchanged over the month.
