Indiana County and its municipalities can expect a dramatic drop in natural gas impact fee revenues next summer when the distributions are announced by the state. The Independent Fiscal Office estimates a decrease of $105 million across the commonwealth from 2022, with impact fees generating about $174 million. A sixty percent drop in natural gas prices accounts for about $85 million of the decline and fewer new wells being drilled is the primary factor in the rest.
Indiana County received more than $506,000 in Act 23 disbursements for 2022. The distributions are typically announced in June.
