The Pirates’ offseason build continues with the acquisition yesterday of Yankees outfielder Billy McKinney in exchange for international signing bonus pool considerations.
The left-handed hitting McKinney can play all three outfield positions and first base. He was the Oakland A’s first-round draft pick in 2013 but has been traded six times and played for seven teams in six Major league seasons, with a career batting average of .209. He’s hit 34 home runs with 86 RBIs in 311 career games. Last season, McKinney hit .227 with six home runs and 14 RBIs in 48 games for the Yanks.
