While not all Indiana County school districts have continued to post positive covid-19 case numbers, several still do, and the Indiana Area District is reporting another positive case today. The district was notified yesterday that a student at the Senior High School tested positive, but because the student was not in school during the infectious period, the case does not apply to the rolling fourteen-day count. Currently, Indiana Area has one positive case, at Ben Franklin Elementary. Superintendent Michael Vuckovich says that because they are 100 percent remote on Fridays, there is more flexibility to remain open, and while the decision to go remote on Fridays was not viewed favorably by some, families, it has already allowed the district to remain open despite a rise in transmission rates and positive cases in the community.
Penns Manor also reports a positive case, involving an employee who was last in school on Thursday, April 8. Through contact tracing, they have determined that no one else was exposed.
Purchase Line had reported last Friday an outbreak of positive cases; three students at the high school and a staff member at the elementary school, added to a report last Wednesday of cases involving a student at the high school and two students at the elementary school.
On Monday, United reported a positive case in a student at the elementary school.
Indiana County showed 29 new cases of covid-19 yesterday and one additional death, bringing the death total for the county during the pandemic to 165.
