Bryan Rust and Sidney Crosby shined for the Penguins on Friday as they beat the New Jersey Devils, 6-4.
The Devils came within one goal of Pittsburgh with more than 2:30 left in regulation, but Bryan Rust capitalized on an empty net to add an insurance goal with less than a minute remaining. Rust also netted a goal in the early portion of the third on a Power Play opportunity, while Crosby followed that up with a goal of his own.
After the game, Rust said the team’s recent surges on offense stem from more confidence.
Crosby credited Friday’s win to goalie Casey DeSmith, who had some key saves in the final period.
The Penguins are now 26-13-2 on the season and they sit just two points away from the New York Islanders in the eastern division. They look to complete the series sweep over the Devils on Sunday at 7 p.m.
