The full writeup provided by Homer-center coach David King:
The Homer-Center Wildcat swim teams traveled to UPJ’s Zamias pool to take on both the Westmont Hilltoppers and the Richland Rams on Monday. The Lady Wildcat swimmers put two more wins in the books, winning 88 to 80 against Westmont and 95 to 73 to Richland. The boys split, winning against Westmont in a close matchup of 62 to 61 and just coming up short 63 to 51 to the Rams.
The girls won six of the eleven events. Ava King earned first-place finishes in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke; Morgan Nagy in the 200 IM and 500 Freestyle; and Grace Frazer in the 200 Freestyle. King, Nagy, Frazer, and Vanessa Uher combined to win the girl’s 400 freestyle relay. For the boys, Brady Frazer won the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and Trevor Cameron won the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly.
This was a huge win against larger schools for both the boys and girls’ teams. A team’s success can’t just be measured in wins and first-place finishes. Newer swimmers improving their times and picking up third, fourth, and fifth-place finishes are a big part of our victory. Homer-Center swimmers combined for 118.6 seconds of total time drops this meet. Four swimmers had double-digit time drops. Ciara Richards dropped 14.82 seconds in the 200 IM, Sally Paegons dropped 25.23 seconds in her 100 freestyle, Alivia Stambolia dropped 13.81 seconds in the 100 backstroke, and Natalia Thomas dropped 36.66 seconds in the 100 breaststroke.
We also had two swimmers successfully complete new events. Alaina Bell finished her first 200 Freestyle and Ciara Richards completed her first 500 freestyle.
RIFLE
The Indiana rifle team lost a close match with Bethel Park, 782-32x to 778-40x. Top shooter for Indiana was Gavin Dicken with a perfect 100-10x.
