Some Indiana County firefighters helped out crews in Westmoreland County this morning with a fire that gutted a home in Derry Township.
Reports say the fire broke out around 3:30 this morning at a home on North Chestnut Street. Seven people were displaced by the fire and one firefighter was injured. The extent of the firefighter’s injury is not known, but the firefighter was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The fire is believed to have started in the back of the house and spread quickly. Two cars in the driveway and a neighboring home sustained some heat-related damage as well. The home is believed to be a total loss, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Blairsville fire crews joined six other fire departments in fighting the fire, while Black Lick fire department was on standby for Blairsville.
