The cleanup continues after the floods that struck the area on Monday, with area municipalities trying their best to offer assistance.
In Homer City, Borough Manager Rob Nymick says they’ve arranged for a rolloff dumpster from Waste Management to help people dispose of flood-damaged property. It will be in the Homer City Borough Office parking area the next three days from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. It is for flood victims only, and is free of charge. Nymick says the only items not permitted are electronics and anything containing freon. He says there will be some assistance provided for the elderly, but in general borough employees will not empty people’s cars for them.
Nymick says borough property sustained mostly light damage, but for residents, the damage from flooded basements is substantial. There was cosmetic damage to the walking path around Floodway Park and damage to the ballfield’s outfield fences. Some residents, however, lost everything in their basements.
Nymick says it was all hands on deck on Monday, with volunteers, other fire departments, the borough work crews, and many others. He was especially grateful for the Homer City Fire Department, who he says went “above and beyond”, some of them working to help others when their own basements were flooded.
