Mired in a three-game losing streak and in seventh place in the eight-team NHL Metro Division, the Penguins take the ice tonight against the second place team in the Atlantic Division, the Florida Panthers.
They’ll play without top line winger Bryan Rust, who suffered an undisclosed upper body injury on Wednesday against Tampa Bay. Coach Mike Sullivan said yesterday that Rust will not be in the lineup tonight. Sullivan said the injuries the Penguins have suffered recently have given guys like speedy winger Vinny Hinostroza the chance to show their stuff.
The Panthers will hold a pregame ceremony to honor retired forward Patrik Hornqvist, who played six seasons in Pittsburgh and won two Stanley Cups. Penguins players were thrilled to learn that their former teammate would have a special night. Sullivan says Hornqvist is richly deserving of the honor.
Faceoff tonight is shortly after seven o’clock. The airtime on 92.5 FM U92 is at six.
