One person had to be rescued after they fell into a sink hole on Route 286 in Rayne Township.
State Police say that this happened at 11:35 PM Monday on the berm of Route 286 near Rayne Church Road. The man, described by police as a 62-year-old Indiana Man, was seen by a passing pedestrian trapped in the sinkhole and notified the authorities.
Indiana Fire Association Rescue Squad was called to the scene along with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, EMT’s and PennDOT officials to help with the rescue. After the man was freed from the sinkhole, he was taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center for treatment of hypothermia and a minor injury. The road was closed for four hours as crews rescued the man and then PennDOT road crews came in to fix the roadway, and it has been open for normal traffic since that time.
