The Pitt Panthers broke a two-game losing streak last night in the renewal of the Basketball Backyard Brawl, topping West Virginia 80-63 in Morgantown.
Blake Hinson dropped nine three-pointers on the Mountaineers and finished with a career-high 29 points. It was his second straight career high after he scored 27 against Clemson on Sunday. Bub Carrington had 16 and 7-foot center Guillermo Diaz-Graham had 15 points, hitting three out of four three-pointers and going 6-for-7 from the field.
Coach Jeff Capel says the Panthers made him proud.
Capel says the Panthers, ending a stretch of games against Power Five conference opponents in which they went 2-and-3, have plenty of room for improvement.
Pitt will have three more games before Christmas, all of them at home and all against smaller schools from non-Power Five conferences. They’ll play Canisius on Saturday, South Carolina State on December 16th, and Purdue Fort Wayne on the 20th. Then it’s back to ACC play with a game at Syracuse to close out the calendar year on December 30th.
