BLAIRSVILLE – 14, BLACKLICK VALLEY – 6
Isabel Pynos homered twice as the Blairsville Bobcats won in their season opener by beating Blacklick Valley, 14-6, in a non-conference matchup on Monday. Hannah and Tori Foust also collected home runs in the game, while Hannah racked up 15 strikeouts in a complete game effort on the mound.
Brin Gardner and Madison Stutzman each posted 3-for-4 efforts at the plate, with Gardner legging out a triple in the sixth inning.
Blairsville will begin conference play on Thursday as they travel to face Homer-Center.
BASEBALL
UNITED – 3, MARION CENTER – 0
Ben Tomb pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout and struck out 18 Stingers. Joe Marino went 2-for-3 with two doubles, breaking a 0-0 6th inning tie with a double to drive in Hunter Cameron. Jon Henry and Wade Plowman each went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Marcus Badzik had the lone hit for Marion Center.
United improves to 2-0 on the season and will face Saltsburg on Thursday. Marion Center falls to 1-1 on the season and they will face West Shamokin at home on Thursday.
BLAIRSVILLE – 8, BLACKLICK VALLEY – 10
The Bobcats would rally for five runs in the seventh inning, but that was all the Blacklick Valley Vikings would allow them to score as they won, 10-8, on Monday.
Cameron Reaugh and Andrew Baker each went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Carson McCully also collected two RBIs while going 1-for-3 at the plate. On the basepath, Reaugh, Ashton Perfetti and Brayde Furman each tallied a stolen base.
Blairsville starts the year at 0-1 and will face Saltsburg (0-1) in Heritage Conference play on Tuesday.
