BASKETBALL
The Renda Media broadcast schedule gets underway tonight for high school basketball, and it features the defending Heritage and District 6 champion River Valley girls basketball team taking on United in Blairsville.
River Valley split this weekend’s pair of games, beating Cambria Heights on Friday and falling to Greater Latrobe on Saturday, earning them second in the River Valley tip-off tournament. United split their opening games at the Windber tip-off tournament, falling to Bishop McCort on Friday and beating Everett on Saturday.
Junior Ava Persichetti said the Panthers are ready to build on last year’s season.
Senior Emilee Staats said the team is confident they can repeat as champions despite losing their leading rebounders, Abby Pynos and Hannah Artley to graduation.

SWIMMING
The Homer-Center swim teams beat Ligonier Valley at IUP’s John A. Pidgeon Natatorium yesterday. The girls won 98-57 while the boys won 61-48.
For the girls, Morgan Nagy took first in the 200 free and 100 breaststroke. Grace Frazer won the 200 IM and Ava King won the 100 backstroke. King, Frazer, Nagy, and Vanessa Uher combined to win the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.
The boys team broke six records while taking five of 11 events. Brady Frazer set a new school record in the IM with a 2:25.73 and in the 100 breaststroke at 1:14.02. Dan Jones set a school record in the 100 freestyle at 1:08.67. Both relay teams also broke school records. Trevor Cameron, Frazer, Landon Shoup, and Oshen Maratita won the 200 Medley, while the team of Shoup, Jones, Maratita, and Frazer won the 200 Freestyle.
Cameron also set the 100-fly record with a time of 1:13.02.
Homer-Center travels to Somerset Friday.
VOLLEYBALL
Homer-Center’s Meegan Williams and Alaina Fabin were selected to the PAVBCA All-State Volleyball team yesterday. It’s Williams’ third selection to the All-State team, while it’s Fabin’s first.
Williams led the Wildcats with 336 kills and 167 digs. Fabin led the team in blocks with 92.
