After overcoming the initial COVID-19 attack, the NHL faces another hurdle as the more infectious P.1 variant has made its way into the league.
ESPN reports that more than half of the Vancouver Canucks’ roster tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, with several cases containing the new variant. Several players were symptomatic and a few were in “rough shape,” according to team sources. An unnamed Canucks players said that while he hasn’t heard of any hospitalizations, some players are receiving IV treatments after undergoing severe dehydration.
A team agent said that common symptoms are fatigue and dehydration, and they also said some players “can’t even get out of bed.”
The NHL plans to make decisions on whether the Canucks can return to play this season in the coming days. Until then, team practices are on hold.
