After the Crimson Hawks were swept by the nationally-ranked Seton Hill Griffins last weekend, IUP looks to get back on the winning side of things as it enters a four-game weekend series against the Cal U Vulcans. This is the second time this season that both teams square off against each other, as Cal U swept IUP back on March 20 and 21 in a two-game home-and-home series.
The Crimson Hawks come in with lots of recent production on offense, with Harrison Pontoli leading the team with a .356 batting average through 12 games, Nick Hess adding a .302 batting average and a team-leading .488 slugging percentage this season, and Colin Williams bringing a .412 on-base percentage into the weekend.
On the mound, Tyler Diefenbach and Jake Decker struck out 10 Vulcan hitters in the last series. In addition, the duo have allowed only a .241 opponent batting average, while Diefenbach sits tied for sixth in the PSAC in walks allowed (5).
Both teams will play two games at Cal U on Friday and will finish the series on Saturday at Owen Dougherty Field. Both doubleheaders are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
