Four fire companies were called out early this morning for a structure fire in Washington Township.
Indiana County 911 summoned Creekside, Marion Center, Plumville and Indiana Fire Company 2 to 6288 Five Points Road in Creekside for a report of a fire in a barn. Creekside fire department chief Cody Hitchings said that firefighters were quick to respond to the scene and were able to knock the fire down quickly. Damage was limited to a quarter of the pig barn. Some of the barn’s trusses burned, along with some of the studs, but the barn still stands and is functioning.
Hitchings says he believed that the fire may have started with a portable heater inside the barn. No firefighters were injured, but it’s not known at this time if any of the pigs were injured.
Perry Township, Clymer Fire Department and Indiana Fire Company 3 were dispatched to standby in their stations.
This marks the third fire reported in Indiana County in a 24-hour span. The first was reported at 12:37 PM on Sunday, with a brush fire on Route 954 in Washington Township. Plumville firefighters were dispatched for that fire.
At 3:56 PM, Clymer, Glen Campbell, Cherry Tree and Commodore fire departments were dispatched to a fire reported on Mountain View Drive in Montgomery Township.
Plumville firefighters were called into Armstrong County to assist crews with a structure fire on Racetrack Road in Plumcreek Township at 6:13 PM.
