On Friday night, Homer City held its annual tree lighting ceremony and also named its 2023 Citizen of the Year.

Out of five people nominated, Joann Ruffner was named citizen of the year for her efforts to raise funds for the Homer City Library. Ruffner said she was surprised by the award.
Ruffner has been fundraising for the library for around 15 years, and also works for S&T Bank. She says that the best reason for people to volunteer is because the people who do so feel better for it.
