The Red Sox posted 6 unanswered runs in the sixth inning which led to a 7-4 win over the Pirates on Saturday.
Kevin Newman and Bryan Reynolds finished the game with three hits each, while Phillip Evans went 2-4 with an RBI. With his three hits, Newman increases his spring batting average to .714 (20-28).
Chad Kuhl and Wil Crowe combined for four innings pitched with four strikeouts. David Bednar collected three strikeouts while only allowing one hit in the eighth. He now has allowed only three hits and one walk while tallying 17 strikeouts over 8.1 innings pitched this spring.
The Pirates return to action with Sunday afternoon matchup against the Baltimore Orioles. First pitch is 1 p.m.
ROSTER MOVES:
The Pirates optioned RHP Tyler Bashlor following Saturday’s game, leaving 35 active players at camp. Bashlor was shelved most of Spring Training with lower back tightness.
