Missouri turned a six-point deficit with 7:41 left in the first half into a 3-point halftime lead, then held Pitt to no field goals for 8:55 of the second half to come away with a 71-64 win over the Panthers, the second Pitt loss to an SEC team in the last week. The Panthers fell to 5-2.
Blake Hinson scored 22 points to lead Pitt, including two straight three-pointers that closed the gap to four points in the closing minute, but the Panthers could get no closer. Bub Carrington scored 13 points and Ishmael Leggett had 10 as Pitt went ice cold from the field.
Coach Jeff Capel says the Panthers couldn’t overcome their poor shooting and it affected the rest of their performance.
Pitt begins ACC play this weekend, taking on powerful Clemson on Sunday. The coach says they’ll be ready for the Tigers.
