The Republican Parties of Indiana, Armstrong and Butler counties met and selected their party’s candidate to fill the vacancy left when Representative Jeff Pyle announced his retirement on March 16th.
The committee nominated Pyle’s former Chief of Staff, Abby Major, as its candidate. Major, a Ford City native, had served under Pyle for more than a decade. Before that, she served as an Army intelligence analyst and was deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Prior to that, she was an intern with State Representative Jeff Coleman, who represented the district before Pyle took over.
Pyle stepped down due to health-related issues. He continues to be treated for cancer and is also continuing rehabilitation following a stroke that happened in 2020.
The Democrat Party will meet tonight to vote on its candidate. Major and the Democrat candidate will be on the ballot in May. The winner will take Pyle’s seat effective immediately and will serve the entirety of the term. They would also be eligible for re-election in 2022.
