Hunters are headed out once again for the start of another hunting season, but this time it is to bag a deer.
Today marks the start of rifle deer season. It is anticipated that this will be one of the most popular hunting seasons again this year, and the PA Game Commission says expect a lot of hunters today. But hunters are reminded that there are new rules in place this year for Chronic Wasting Disease.
Starting this season, hunters who harvest a deer within a Disease Management Area or the Established Area – or even outside Pennsylvania – can take it directly to any Game Commission-approved processor or taxidermist anywhere in the state that will dispose of high-risk parts properly. The changes to the rules ensure the proper disposal of high-risk parts, make taking deer within a DMA or the EA more convenient for hunters.
Deer season will run from today through December 9th. Sunday hunting is only permitted tomorrow and will not be allowed on December 3rd.
