The Pitt Panthers took their first loss of the season last night, 86-71 to Florida at the NIT Pre-Season Tip-Off Tournament. Coach Jeff Capel says the young Panthers were outmuscled by the experienced Gators both in the backcourt and frontcourt.
Florida guard Walter Clayton scored 28 points and forward Tyrese Samuel added 20. Pitt, with center Fede Federiko saddled with foul trouble, was led by Ishmael Leggett with 19 points and Blake Hinson’s 16. Bub Carrington scored 14. Federiko scored only one point and played only 23 minutes.
Pitt will play Oregon State in the consolation game tomorrow at 3 PM. The beavers lost to Baylor, 88-72.
