Indiana Borough Council met for a work session last night and the issue of liquor licenses being transferred into the borough once again came up for discussion.
A vote is expected during next month’s regular borough council meeting on whether a liquor license purchased from a tavern in Seward would allowed to be transferred into Indiana Borough for use at the future “Philly St. Station” restaurant at the location of the former Taze ristorante and the Train Station restaurant. During public comment, Mary Beth Ackbay, the owner of Romeo’s Pizza and the former owner of Taze, said she wanted to clear up a rumor about the liquor license that was part of Taze. The rumor was that the license would eventually be transferred to Romeo’s, but that will not happen. She did mention the license was for sale.
Ackbay also stated that she was against the liquor license transfer because there were too many liquor licenses for the borough.
When the issue was brought up during the work session, Council President Peter Broad said that any information presented outside of the public hearing held earlier this month is not allowed to be considered when borough council makes its decision in September.
