New Jersey captured the series win over the Penguins on Sunday after winning in overtime by the score of 2-1.
After Sidney Crosby gave Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead in the first, the Devils’ Sami Vatanen scored with 4:48 remaining in the second period to even up the game. Both teams held each other scoreless in the third period, but the Devils capitalized on a 3-on-2 advantage in overtime after Jesper Bratt snuck the puck by the leg of Tristan Jarry to end the game.
After the game, Crosby said that, while the Penguins generated good shooting opportunities this weekend, they need to do a better job at burying the puck.
The Penguins also struggled to capitalize on Power Play opportunities, going 0-2 on the afternoon, and Crosby said that forced them to play catch-up for most of the game.
The loss moves the Penguins to 19-11-2, but they still hold third place in the eastern division. They will return to the ice on Wednesday to start a two-game series with the Buffalo Sabres.
