The results of a poll conducted last month show former Congressman Lou Barletta as the early favorite for the Republican nomination for governor next year.
The Susquehanna Polling & Research poll used a potential field of five candidates considered frontrunners, with Barletta winning the head-to-head matchup over State Senator Doug Mastriano, 20 percent to 11 percent. Then come Congressman Dan Meuser and former U.S. Attorney William McSwain, both at three percent, and former Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley, at two percent. Sixty percent of Republican voters say they are still undecided.
There have been no recent polls on Democrat candidates for governor, although Attorney General Josh Shapiro is the early favorite.
