Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will miss the remainder of the season with a broken bone in his shoulder that will require surgery. In a surprise move, the Browns will start rookie third-stringer Dorian Thompson-Robinson at QB over second-stringer P.J. Walker. Thompson-Robinson has made one previous start, October 1st against the Ravens, when he was 19-for-36 for 121 yards with three interceptions.
With the Browns chief weapon out at quarterback, the Steelers may consider giving safety Minkah Fitzpatrick another week off to rest his sore hamstring. Of course, Fitzpatrick’s continued absence from practice yesterday might indicate that he’s not ready to return anyway.
The Steelers’ quarterback, Kenny Pickett, has had his own struggles and is aware that he needs to play better. He says the Browns defense, led by Myles Garrett, is a stiff test.
In addition to Fitzpatrick, fellow safety Keanu Neal, defensive lineman Montravious Adams, wide receiver Diontae Johnson, and defensive lineman Cam Heyward were all missing from practice yesterday as they continue to nurse injuries.
Tight end Pat Freiermuth was back at practice for the first time in a month as a limited participant. Freiermuth says it’s been tough dealing with the first hamstring injury he’s ever had.
The Steelers yesterday signed inside linebacker Tyler Murray to their practice squad. He was working a shift at Amazon when he got the call, flew to Pittsburgh to work out for the Steelers, and signed yesterday. He’s a former cornerback who played college football at Troy, Charlotte, and Memphis before going undrafted last spring and signing as a free agent with the Bengals. He was cut at the end of training camp and was on their practice squad before his release September 5th.
