The streaking Penguins seemed lost as they fell behind late in the first period last night against Columbus, but as Paul Steigerwald reports, Sidney Crosby took control of the game and led them to another big win.
Crosby had the hat trick and assisted on Jake Guentzel’s goal. Erik Karlsson had the other Penguins goal and Tristan Jarry made 28 saves.
With New Jersey losing to Winnipeg and Philadelphia idle, the Penguins jumped over both the Devils and Flyers in the Metro Division and lead them both by a point. The Pens host the Devils tomorrow night.
The Penguins yesterday recalled forward Jonathan Gruden from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the morning, but sent him back down in the afternoon. They did not announce a reason for the moves.
