The Baltimore Orioles handed the Pirates their second consecutive loss after beating them, 11-9, Friday night in Bradenton.
Todd Frazier hit a two-run home run in the third inning, which kickstarted a heavy offensive surge in the middle portion of the game. However, two homers by Ryan Mountcastle and Cedric Mullins gave Baltimore the lead in the sixth and seventh innings, while the bullpen locked down the Pirates offense to seal the win.
Steven Brault exited the game after two innings pitched due to tightness in his left arm. His status is day-to-day, according to Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic.
Mars native David Bednar continued his dominant spring out of the Bucs’ bullpen as he struck out two batters in the final inning. Bednar now has 13 strikeouts while only allowing two hits and one walk over 13 innings pitched.
The Pirates are now 8-9-1 on the spring and will face the Detroit Tigers on Saturday at 1 p.m.
