The Penguins take a four-game winning streak into tonight’s game at Columbus. The Penguins are in sixth place in the Metro Division with 14 points and the Blue Jackets are last with twelve, but there are only six points between second place and eighth in the tight division.
Coach Mike Sullivan yesterday got rookie defenseman John Ludvig back on the ice at practice for the first time since Ludvig suffered a concussion in his NHL debut on October 24th.
Forward Jeff Carter was absent with an upper body injury and forward Reilly Smith missed practice as well, because he was at the White House, being honored along with his former teammates with the Vegas Golden Knights for winning the Stanley Cup last season.
Sullivan says the Penguins sudden hot streak has been led by his reliably trusty veterans, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.
Malkin leads the Penguins in goals with eight and is tied with Jake Guentzel in points, with 16. Crosby is only a point back, with seven goals and 15 points. Sullivan says Malkin took the Penguins missing the playoffs last season personally, and is determined to get back to competing for the Cup.
Tonight’s game faces off shortly after 7 o’clock. The pregame begins at 6 on 92.5 FM U92.
