Homer-Center’s volleyball season came to a close last night with a 3-1 state playoff loss to Elk County Catholic, but the Wildcats went down fighting.
The Wildcats dropped the first set 25-21 after scoring eight straight points while facing set point at 24-13. They trailed 16-14 in the second set before a 6-1 run gave ECC a commanding lead on the way to a 25-19 win. In the third set, Homer-Center jumped up 8-1, fell into a 17-17 tie, then took the win in a see-saw finish, 27-25. The Wildcats then took an 8-2 lead in the fourth set before the Crusaders came back and won it in a thriller, 28-26.
Meegan Williams led Homer-Center with 28 kills, 18 digs, and 7 blocks, earning the praise of Elk County Catholic coach Tricia Bauer, who called Williams “an amazing player.” Alaina Fabin had 13 kills, 12 digs, and 9 blocks. Ashlynn Kerr finished with 8 kills and 14 digs. Reagan Bauer led ECC with 16 kills.
