When the Penguins blasted San Jose, 10-2, on Saturday, they were facing an 0-9-1 team that had just one point this season. Tonight, it gets more difficult in the second game of their three-game California trip, when the Pens visit Anaheim. The Ducks have won six in a row, including a 4-3 win over the Penguins last week in Pittsburgh, and wins over the two other hottest teams in hockey, the Bruins and the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas, on Sunday.
On Saturday night, coach Mike Sullivan benched Jeff Carter, the first time in the 19-year veteran’s career he’s been a healthy scratch. Sullivan said it wasn’t easy telling Carter he would not be in the lineup.
Sullivan says Carter brings a lot to the team, especially the younger players, whether he’s on the ice or not.
Carter says he isn’t going to “mope around and be an old, grumpy guy”, but will continue to have fun while working to get back in the lineup. He says it’s important for him to support his teammates.
Faceoff tonight is shortly after 10 o’clock. The airtime on 92.5 FM U92 is at 9.
