The Pirates had a lot of young talent heading into the offseason but the rules say you can’t keep them all. Yesterday, they lost two more on waiver claims.
Oakland claimed outfielder Miguel Andujar and Atlanta took left-hander relief pitcher Angel Perdomo. They are the fourth and fifth players the Bucs have lost on waiver claims since last week. The Pirates have also reinstated shortstop Oneil Cruz and pitcher JT Brubaker from the 60-day injured list.

In a shocker yesterday, the Cubs fired manager David Ross and hired former Brewers manager Craig Counsell, signing him to the richest contract for a manager in Major League history. Counsell will get $8 million a year for five years.
With Counsell no longer available, the team previously thought to be his choice, the Mets, hired Yankees bench coach Carlos Mendoza as their manager.
The Cleveland Guardians hired former All-Star catcher Stephen Vogt as their manager. He retired after the 2022 season and spent this past season as the Mariners’ bullpen coach.
Major League Baseball revealed three finalists from each league for the MVP, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year, and Manager of the Year awards Monday. Shohei Ohtani and Rangers teammates Corey Seager and Marcus Semien are the nominees for AL MVP, while Dodgers teammates Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman are finalists in the NL along with the Braves’ Ronald Acuna, Jr.
The Padres’ Blake Snell, D-Backs’ Zac Gallen, and Giants’ Logan Webb are finalists for NL Cy Young, with the Twins’ Sonny Grey, Yankees’ Gerrit Cole, and Blue Jays’ Kevin Gausman the nominees for the American League Cy Young Award.
