For the first time since switching quarterbacks, Pitt offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti, Jr., met with the media yesterday to discuss what went into the change, and what needs to happen for the Panthers’ offense to improve in the final games of the season.
Commenting on naming redshirt sophomore Christian Veilleux the team’s starting quarterback after Phil Jurkovic struggled through the first few games, Cignetti said the change was “no reflection on what Phil’s performance was,” and that “it was time for a change.”
Cignetti also said Veilleux is determined to help the team in both the present and the future.
Cignetti also commented on the team’s lackluster offense, which ranks 105th in 3rd down conversion percentage and 116th in total offense. He said it all comes down to execution.
Pitt hosts No. 4 Florida State this Saturday at Acrisure Stadium. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m. on WCCS.
